Our father just had an MRI of the back and the results were: 1. posterior central bulge of L5-S1 disc with mild the cal indentation 2. hypertrophic degenerative changes in bilateral L4-L5 and L5-S1 facet joint with thickening of capsular ligament around them Could u please tell us what this means? We are concerned as he is 86 years of age, and is diabetic and has had a kidney transplant in 2000. Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you soon. T.
welcome to Health care magic. 1.All what seen in the report are age related degenerative changes. 2.The disc seen bulling out and causing mass effect on the nerve root and spinal canal. 3.The intervertebral joint is showing the inflammatory changes. 4.The possible treatment in this case is simple exercises followed by physiotherapy. Operative procedures are not recommend in this age. 5.Control the diabetes and other medical conditions. Good luck. Hope it helps you. Wish you a good health. Anything to ask ? do not hesitate. Thank you.
